The challenge

Donations arrive through banks, payment processors, and legacy institutional systems like Banner and Blackbaud — each with its own formats, timing, and quirks. Reconciling them by hand is slow and error-prone; a board still needs to trust every number in the report.

A misreported donation total is a trust problem, not just a data problem. The client needed every dollar reconciled exactly, presented in plain language a non-technical board could read without a translator.

The approach

We split the system down the middle, and never let the two halves blur together:

Deterministic core
Reconciliation across banks, processors, and institutional systems runs as ordinary, testable code — every dollar is traceable back to its source, with no model in the loop on the math.
AI-assisted layer
Language generation is reserved for what it's good at — turning reconciled data into plain-language summaries a board or executive director can read in minutes.

That boundary means the numbers a board sees are always backed by an exact, auditable trail — the plain-language summary is a translation of the truth, never a substitute for it.

Where it stands

GiveSync runs in production today, synchronizing donation flows across banks and institutional systems like Banner and Blackbaud, with boards relying on its reporting every cycle.
